Oggie Flooring: A Bold Fresnaye Home
And yet this home stands proud as a 600m² family abode, which achieves its luxury through soaring volumes and privacy by making the most of the established “jungle” for which the site was specifically acquired. By lovingly retaining all existing trees, the house avoids the nouveau riche scorched earth policy which has become de rigeur on Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard.
The home feels wonderfully light and bright and fully maximises natural light as this permeates through the many spaces. Naturally, the warmth of the wooden flooring adds a richness and depth that invigorates the living spaces. A few pops of colour throughout add to the cool, lived-in vibe of this magnificent retreat.
Oggie Flooring pulled out all the stops, working together with the team to achieve a sleek and contemporary look in this home. Their superior oak flooring adds a wonderfully rich aesthetic quality to the space – with the chevron pattern and texture speaking to the woodblock parquetry found in early modernist architecture, but in a new perhaps even futuristic shape and pattern. It is in itself a microcosm of the broader design intent and brings a warmth and softness to this interior. For over a decade Oggie have inspired the best of Africa’s architects and designers, with a broad range of wide-plank oak floors and wall cladding that is handcrafted to their specific design needs.
