The Caesarstone Student Designer Competition is Here

The time has come to enter one of South Africa’s most renowned design competitions. Brought to us by Caesarstone, the Student Designer Competition is here and calls upon innovative South African design students to show the country what they are made of.

Who is allowed to enter?

Entrants must be either second or third-year students from registered South African tertiary institutions offering architecture, interior design or interior architecture qualifications. Only 5 entries per faculty, per institution, will be accepted.

How does the judging process work?

Caesarstone adheres to strict BLIND JUDGING policies, which means the judges never know who the student is, what area they are from, which department they are from (interior design or architecture), or even the name of the university. The judging is a full day process. First, the Top 9 finalists are selected. This leads to the selection of the Top 3 finalists. Lastly, the winner is selected.

What’s in it for the winner?

The student winner together with their lecturer will be sent on an all-expenses-paid trip to an international design fair of their choice, courtesy of Caesarstone worth R100,000.00. The runner-up will receive R15,000.00; the second runner-up will receive R5000.00 and Best Presentation will receive R7,500.00.

Advice to Entrants?

Presentation is very important:

The presentation of your submission should reflect the brief.
Get your message across graphically.
Judges need to understand your thought process.
Don’t overcrowd or clutter presentation sheets.
Keep graphics simple, clean and neat by distilling the essence of your design.
Text must be limited to bullet points.
Emphasise your key points.
An award will be given to the best model and presentation to the value of R7,500. The winner will not be excluded from the additional prize and could be eligible for best designer of the year and best presentation.
