Fabric and interior design trends: fresh ideas in 2022

Want to give your spaces a touch of the trendy? Start with your textiles. Look to your curtains, throw pillows and furniture upholstery as a launching point. Better yet, give them a makeover with these fabric and interior design trends. Our experts have the top three aspects for you to consider when choosing your new fabrics.

Fabrics for every aesthetic

Creating a signature look starts with selecting elements that reflect your style. And achieving an effective atmosphere starts with pairing your style with this year’s fabric interior design trends. Our vast fabric range covers a variety of decorating looks and elements for all your needs. From curtaining, dual purpose fabrics, to fabric lining and upholstery — unlock the latest luxe looks with these fabric trends of 2022.

Trend alert — pair plush with playful

The main trends you’ll find this year? Three key concepts — comfort, texture and depth of colour. After spending the last few years confined to the home space, the general direction is now towards fluidity, comfort and authenticity. While tailored lines are still very in, you will notice more curves in furniture, unusual textures in fabrics and splashes of colours in various tones.

Comfort

Home has always been synonymous with comforts — and now more than ever, we can say it’s on-trend. Furniture pieces are merging the pleasures of cocooning with multiple support areas for lazy perching. Think curvy, cosy and deeper cushions with indulgent plushness. And cosiness is best paired with snug and stylish fabrics.

Texture

You’ll be sure to spot the snuggliest of fabrics across upholstery and throw pillows, while curtaining offers more of a varied depth. We’re expecting more faux furs with playful weaves and unusual combinations for a new take on fashionable fabrics in the home. Look for our slub fabric ranges like Baltimore, Buffa and the highly textured Eden.

Depth of colour

Spaces are becoming increasingly dynamic with not just colour, but the depth of it. Look out for more traces of limewash and clay plaster in general, with a particular nod to ombre curtaining. While we traditionally have seen ombre as a gradient of colours (like Joie de Vivre’s Aurora range) expect more watercolour striping with curtain ranges like Walks On The Beach. For upholstery pieces, look to colour variations with depth as seen with Codey and Belfort.

Colours

Wondering what’s in store for colour this year? We can easily say there are shades that will suit all tastes. Welcome in shades of green (bedrooms with pistachio and living rooms in olive) and a resurgence of the millennial pink palette (nude, blush, dusty pink and coral). Mustard yellow is taking over last year’s terra cotta and warm browns are replacing industrial greys. And don’t forget Pantone’s colour of the year Very Peri (a dynamic periwinkle blue hue). To browse all of these exciting colours, explore our offerings via the fabric swatch filter located on the left side of our fabric page.

Patterns

Two top contenders for patterns of the year include marbling and whimsical scribbles and scrawls. Marbling is a timeless and classic look using mesmerising fluid motions, well applied using velvet and metallics. Look for hints of marbling in Calacatta, Oberon, and Stratus. As for the trend of sketched fabrics, you’ll see a subtle hint to animal prints with classic black on white in some pieces. Get inspired with Bahia, Diego, Guizar, and Esteban.
