Celebrity Homes: Inside David Harbour & Lily Allen’s Brooklyn Fantasyland

The Stranger Things actor and British singer-actor created a family oasis that can be described as ‘weird and wonderful’ – a retreat in Brooklyn, with the assistance of designer Billy Cotton and architect Ben Bischoff of MADE.

To say that this home is a little ‘out there’ and filled with the unexpected would be an understatement. It is dressed in an intrepid pasticcio of chintz balloon shades. Furthermore, it features crystal chandeliers, pink silk, tiger-patterned textiles, and Mylar wallpaper. As such, the home issues a full-throated rebuke to the current vogue for hushed good taste wrapped in a straitjacket of beige.

They recently invited Architectural Digest inside where the couple have conjured a familial fantasyland of daring beauty and individual connoisseurial vision. In short, it’s a knockout.

The tour begins in the English and Italian-inspired kitchen. It subsequently features gingham touches, a large stove and a cute lamp that was part of the original design of the property. Many fans were really into this room of the home but it’s the rest of the house the fans find a little shocking.

The bathroom features swan taps, a pink fridge, and an embroidery of sexually transmitted diseases (because why not?). In addition, it showcases a lot of florals, including a floral carpet. Yes, a carpet in the bathroom!

The couple additionally opted for a pink bedroom. It  leads off from the bathroom, with interestingly no windows. Quite unconventional, the home packs a punch and really does get away with the shock factor!

Pushing for more

“Lily is the one who really set the tone and drove the program. Every time I tried to make it calmer, she kept pushing and pushing for more,” Cotton says of his adventurous, British-born client, who stars in the upcoming television series Dreamland as well as a revival of Martin McDonagh’s play The Pillowman debuting in June on London’s West End.

Harbour, too, credits his formidable spouse for the stylistic bravura that propelled the idiosyncratic project. “Lily is someone who lives with colour in a deeper way than most. Her taste is bold, silly, fun, eccentric—it’s exciting,” says the Stranger Things actor and star of the recent blood-splattered Christmas spectacular Violent Night.

This tour of David Harbour and Lily Allen’s Brooklyn town house appears in AD’s Star Power issue. Check it out for yourself, if you dare!
