Microgarden: What can I do with my pre-compost?
What comes out of the composting machine at the end of a cycle?
An odorless pre-compost. A gift from Nature. From this special pile of pre-compost will come the building blocks for growth out there on the lawn, in the flowerbeds, under the trees, and then, the Earth might smile its greenest smile!
So, there are a variety of things you could do with your pre-compost from the kitchen composter. Some include:
- Sprinkle the pre-compost contents in your garden and the microbes in the soil will break the pre-compost down further. 1 bucket pre-compost to 3-5 meters of garden. Do not put the pre-compost on your grass.
- Feed the pre-compost output to your worm farm, our worms love it!
- Throw the pre-compost onto your compost heap. You do not have to worry about attracting unwanted animals as the pre-compost has no smell. If mold occurs this is a good sign that decomposition is underway, the mold will disappear after a few days.
- The pre-compost is easy to store in a bin as there is no mess or smell and it is super light. Once your bin is full you can take it to your nearest green yard where the pre-compost will then get taken together with the garden refuse to an industrial composting site where it will get made into a ready to use compost.
For your convenience, we have made a list of all the green yards in south Africa, you can find it on our website under kitchen composter instructions on page 12.
