Bathroom Inspiration: The Best Indoor Plants For A Fresh New Look
Spruce up your bathroom with fresh plants for instant appeal and a pop of colour. Fresh greenery and plants are thus the ideal way to bring cheer to your bathroom, even when you’re on a budget. And did we mention that this is an effective yet inexpensive way to give your bathroom a whole new look and feel!
Whether potted or hanging, placed on a bathroom windowsill, or suspended from the ceiling, greenery in the bathroom can change the entire feel of the space. Even with adequate ventilation, bathrooms are wet and humid and, at times, hot! This kind of environment is not always suited to all plants so it pays to do a bit of research. Plants such as ferns, orchids, succulents and other tropical varieties don’t mind the heat and humidity. Do your research and your chosen plants will thank you!
Here are a few of our favourites for a modern bathroom…
Aloe
These hardy plants are perfect inside the home as they require little maintenance to look good. Because of its low water requirements, an aloe may also be able to survive off the humidity in your bathroom alone. This healing plant is also great to have on hand for sunburn, cuts and insect bites. But for households with pets, be warned, Aloe Vera is toxic for our furry friends.
Jade Plants
Jade retains water in its round leaves, so it can sometimes survive more than a month without any attention whatsoever. If they do get water, they start to rehydrate and grow. Your best option is to position it in a sunny window and water it when the soil feels dry.
Boston Fern
The Boston fern is native to sub-tropical and tropical environments so they thrive off the humidity! Place or hang near the window as they require as much indirect light as possible. All you have to do is spritz your fern with a water spray if it appears to be drying out.
Fiddle-leaf Fig
If you have a large, sun-filled bathroom, then this choice is a great one. A fiddle leaf fig loves a light and sunny position, so be sure to place it near a sunny window.
Peace Lily
This easy-to-care-for indoor plant thrives without too much watering and little sunlight. It also works to naturally cleanse the air of nasty pollutants such as acetone. They also love the humidity of a bathroom!
Calathea Ornata
If stripes are one of your favourite patterns, here’s a pick for you… Calthea ornata, often referred to as the pinstripe, prayer or zebra plant, has large, striped leaves, making them popular indoors. Keep the soil lightly moist and provide it with indirect light.
Devil’s Ivy
The hearty Devil’s Ivy thrives indoors with little light and little water and they don’t mind the heat! Perfect for a hanging pot – let the vibrant green leaves cascade for a lush display.
