MetropolisLikes NYCxDESIGN Awards 2022 For Philippe Starck & Duravit
Philippe Starck and Duravit have won the MetropolisLikes NYCxDESIGN Award 2022 for the design of the freestanding White Tulip washbasin.
The publishers of the architecture and design magazine confer the prize each year for products from the field of interior design. The 18 winners of this year’s awards were selected by the editorial board of Metropolis and represent the best of new global product design exhibited in New York City during the NYCxDESIGN festival.
Monolithic washbasin
White Tulip is the first full bathroom created entirely by Philippe Starck. From bathtubs, washbasins and furniture, toilets and bidets, to matching mirrors and a complete collection of faucets, the exceptional form of all the components within the series echo the organic silhouette of a tulip in bloom, exuding an almost sculptural and delicate character.
The monolithic, free-standing ceramic washbasin is particularly eye-catching. Available as a single or double solution, it creates a magical feeling in every room. Furthermore, it can be attached to the wall or floor, depending on the specific structural circumstances.
Philippe Starck is always focused on the essential, his vision: that creation, whatever form it takes, must improve the lives of as many people as possible. This philosophy has made him one of the pioneers and central figures of the concept of “democratic design”.
By employing his prolific work across all domains, from everyday products (furniture, a citrus squeezer, electric bikes, an individual wind turbine), to architecture (hotels, restaurants that aspire to be stimulating places) and naval and spatial engineering (mega yachts, habitation module for private space tourism), Starck continually pushes the boundaries and requirements of design. He subsequently becomes one of the most visionary and renowned creators on the international contemporary scene.
