Victorian Bathrooms: Step Into The New Kramerville Showroom

With a growing reputation in the bathroom industry, Victorian Bathrooms shares a legacy of quality design and innovation. We had the chance to catch up with the team and find out more about the brand’s evolution over the years and their new Kramerville showroom, as well as some insider tips for planning the perfect space at home!

When was Victorian Bathrooms founded?

Victorian Bathrooms commenced in 1989, when Lance Goodale identified a demand for traditional bathroom products. There being nothing available locally, he set about sifting through builders’ junkyards and second-hand stores, collecting and restoring and manufacturing products to meet the unusual requirements of the projects with which Victorian Bathrooms became involved.

However, with time the restored Victorian clutter gave way to new products, replicating their predecessors but utilising modern technology, manufactured locally according to Victorian Bathrooms’ requirements where possible, otherwise sourced internationally.

It was not long before Lance’s wife, Margaret, joined him in his quest to discover beautiful classic styled bathroom fixtures from around the world with emphasis on reliability and solidity, all sourced for the discerning home owner who is unprepared to compromise.

How would you describe your new bathroom showroom in Kramerville District?

We are thrilled to re-introduce Johannesburg to the brand through a space where our customers can make their dream bathroom a reality. This showroom offers more room to explore with inspirational settings, extensive product libraries and a cozy corner to sit down, enjoy a coffee and discuss your next exciting bathroom project. We have created a fresh space with several bathroom settings within the showroom, from retro to modern classic, loft-lifestyle to safari-chic, we are confident these displays will inspire all who visit.

Why the move to Kramerville?

After 22 incredible years at the prestigious Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre, the time had come for us to offer our beloved clients the true ‘VB Experience’ that our Cape Town customers have come to appreciate. Now, Kramerville, considered South Africa’s premiere design district, is the new neighbourhood for our showroom, where we can rub shoulders with the best in décor and design.

What’s new with the collections your carry?

Our collections are timeless yet ever-evolving. We keep an eye on the changing trends and add pieces to our offering that meet our criteria of exceptional quality and timeless aesthetics.

What are your top tips in your industry?

Remaining timeless means you will never fall out of trend.

What status does the bathroom have today, and what will it be like in future?

Historically the bathroom has always been an afterthought. This perception is changing. The bathroom is almost as important, if not more, than the master bedroom. It is becoming something of a sanctuary, where we can find solace and peace, an escape from the stresses of life. The bathroom space should instil calmness and bring pleasure to those who interact with it.

What do you understand by holistic bathroom design?

Holistic bathroom design to me, means incorporating materials and products that will feed not only your functional needs, but also your emotional and physiological wants. Plants are an easy way to bring some freshness into your bathroom space. Colours can create emotion and are a great way to have some fun with a space.

When you’re planning a bathroom, how important is it to take the house’s surroundings into account – things like its location, trees, the garden and so on?

The bathroom is your solace, and whatever design style is going to bring you that, then that is the most important decision. Plumbing will be your second most important factor to consider.
