Home Cleanup 101: How To Get Rid Of Unwanted Furniture

Decluttering your home requires you to throw plenty of stuff away. It could be your old clothes, expired canned goods, or rubbish lying around. Some of them may be easy to throw away. However, removing unwanted furniture can be challenging, especially finding where to put them.

Throwing out furniture requires effort. If your furniture no longer has a place in your home, there are plenty of ways to dispose of them. To help you out, listed below are some ways to get rid of unwanted furniture:

Hire A Junk Removal Service

If you’re throwing tons of stuff away, doing it in one go will be more convenient. You can hire a rubbish removal service like Junk Removal Ventura to remove the clutter from your home. With their service, you no longer have to worry about where to put your rubbish.

Did you know a junk removal service can collect all the trash and handle its disposal? Hiring one can save you time and money since you only have to call them. They can carry almost anything from your home. If your rubbish fits in their truck, they can accommodate it.

Meanwhile, it would be wise to practice proper disposal when throwing out chemicals like paints, bleach, cleaning materials, and batteries. Other items that require proper disposal include explosives, pesticides, motor oil, automotive fluid, and freon.

Rent A Dumpster

If you anticipate an extended decluttering day, renting a dumpster is ideal. When you rent a dumpster, you can keep it on your property for five to seven days. During this period, you can throw anything you like that fits inside.

A dumpster in your yard is perfect for throwing out your unwanted furniture. Additionally, renting a dumpster is an excellent option if you plan to have a decluttering week. You can give the skip bin company a call if your rubbish is ready for pick up. Most importantly, you don’t have to worry about driving. They’ll handle everything from delivery to retrieval.

Sell At A Garage Sale

Hosting a garage sale is best if you want to throw away plenty of good items inside your home. You can turn unwanted furniture into something profitable with a garage sale. However, it helps to get the necessary permits before you host one to avoid inconvenience.

When selling your items, you need to price them right. You may consider its initial costs, age, and current condition. You can price them incredibly low if you want to sell them quickly. It might not be the most profitable solution, but it’ll help you dispose of your furniture to earn extra cash.

Post Them Online

If you only have a few unwanted pieces of furniture, you can sell them online instead. Online selling allows you to set a suitable price for the right buyer. You can post an ad on social media or other online marketplaces to reach more audience.

When selling unwanted furniture online, it’s best to be transparent to your buyers. List down every flaw and price your item accordingly. Prepare to open yourself with discounts if the buyer asks for one. Posting photos of the products from different angles will be helpful. Don’t forget to emphasize every flaw, if there’s any.

Give Away To Friends

Before throwing anything away, ask your family or friends if they want to take them off your hands. You can show them a picture of your furniture and let them decide. Giving your unwanted furniture away to friends or relatives is more convenient since you don’t have to worry about finding a buyer and negotiating a price.

Also, you can trust them to pick up the item from your home as you know them personally. And you can guarantee it’ll be in good hands. Meanwhile, disclosing the item’s flaws will help them decide what to do with it. While you won’t get a financial return, it’s a quick and easy option. You might even help them save money by giving them something they need for free.

Repurpose Into Something New

If you have woodworking skills, you can repurpose the furniture instead. If the item’s no longer in excellent condition, you can turn it into something functional or decorative. This option works well with wooden furniture. You can repurpose the item or get your hands dirty by detaching the wood planks.

For example, you can turn a console table into a TV stand, a storage box, or a child’s dresser. You can also transform your old cabinet into a coffee table or a computer desk. You can do plenty of things with your old furniture with the right tools. All you have to do is to use your imagination and make something new out of it.

Donate To Charity

If your unwanted furniture is still in good shape, you can donate it to charity. Before throwing things away, see if someone could use them. Donating to charity is best if you don’t know anyone.

Giving to charity is an excellent way to put your unwanted furniture to good use. You can also tag along some other essentials. You can donate your old clothes, blankets, or appliances you no longer use. You can also add hygiene essentials and healthy food to enjoy. You can call the organization to see if they can arrange free furniture pick up or if you need to bring the items.

Bring To Recycling Center

If your furniture is no longer usable—throwing them out might be your only option. However, another way to dispose of them is to take them to a landfill or a recycling center. Bringing unwanted furniture to a recycling center is a responsible way of disposing of it.

Most recycling centers disassemble furniture and salvage usable parts for better use. It might require extra effort, but it’s an eco-friendly way of handling rubbish.

Takeaway

Getting rid of unwanted furniture is challenging because of their size and weight. You cannot just throw them into your trash can, as they won’t fit. There are numerous ways to dispose of your furniture.  You can sell, give away, donate, or repurpose your furniture. You can also hire junk services to pick up the furniture from your home. Ultimately, deciding the most convenient option for your time and money is best.
