Step Inside This All-Pink French House by Lancôme

In the world of fashion, it is said that pink is the new black… can the same be true in interior design? Today’s all-pink French retreat begs the question!

Located in the picturesque city of Grasse, France, this historic Lancôme house is a delightful new addition to its Domaine de la Rose estate. As such, it is lovingly referred to as the Rose House. Collaborating with architects Lucie Niney and Thibault Marca, Lancôme has passionately embraced biodiversity preservation, sustainability, and the conservation of perfume traditions.

The enchanting shade of pink chosen for this structure pays homage to the renowned centifolia rose. This is a cherished flower cultivated in Grasse and the key ingredient in one of Lancôme’s most iconic fragrances, La Vie Est Belle.

By adopting regenerative cultivation techniques, the pink house and its surrounding garden boast a diverse array of fragrant plants. These include jasmine, iris, tuberose, fig trees, verbena, rosemary, and, of course, the illustrious Perpetual Rose, the shining star of Lancôme’s radiant Absolue collection.

Originally built as a structure dating back to the 1970s, the pink house underwent a remarkable transformation into an environmentally conscious dwelling.

Niney and Marca achieved this transformation by implementing innovative cooling methods, such as an underground heat exchanger, instead of traditional air conditioning. Moreover, they adorned the property with lavender straws. These were sourced directly from the local area for the walls. They also incorporated rice straws from the picturesque Camargue region for the roof.

A perfectly pink interior

The interior is light-filled and, as you may have guessed, all pink, with wooden touches, upholstery, glass and so much more. Thanks to the cathedral ceilings and oversized windows, it is possible to see that its design is simply in terms of volume. This project exhales a sense of airiness and elegance, yet, it has a unique touch of creativity.

Besides being a working farm and beauty sanctuary, this design project was also built as an educational stop for training seasons, workshops, and events and to host perfumers and visitors. The architects’ design direction therefore makes perfect sense by amplifying everything and making it feel connected and modern.

As you already know, this pink house stands as a symbol of Lancômes dedication to biodiversity, so regardless of the importance they gave to the esthetic part of this building, the architects always ensured that the landscape was highlighted as well. Apart from that, Lancôme’s initial idea has consistently been to make this project a monochromatic monolith in line with coatings found on the walls of local houses. That said, it’s evident that one of the principal goals of this house was to boost its sustainability.
