Step Inside This Cabo Beach House
Aqua blue waters and sun-kissed sands. This is what you can expect to experience while in Cabo, Mexico. Today’s home takes us to the seaside with stunning interiors that extend to the outdoors.
“In many ways, this oceanfront home was the antithesis of a city apartment,” says designer Sasha Adler. “Nevertheless, I’d worked with the homeowners on several other projects in Chicago. So while I [had an] instinct of what they gravitate toward, there was still real excitement for the possibilities in this new space.”
Understanding the client’s love for all things authentic to the region, Adler immersed herself in Mexican culture. “I was up to here with books on Mexican architecture and design,” Adler indicates with a hand at eye level. “I knew they wanted a lot of traditional colours, a lot of native artisans, and crafts.” Adler and the homeowners went on a whirlwind tour around Mexico—to Guadalajara, San Miguel de Allende, and Mexico City, specifically—in search of the best locally sourced materials. And while European antiques and Art Deco decor can be seen throughout the home, it was all carefully crafted to interact with the warmth of Mexican design.
The homeowners, who are parents to six children (the oldest is 11), were keen on the space feeling relaxed and inviting. And while valuable artworks seem to become more stunning from one wall to the next, the ubiquitous carefree warmth of a coastal home remains intact. “Our kids are so respectful and aware of the art on the walls,” the clients explain. “This was designed to be a beach house, so we come in wet bathing suits and sit down everywhere. It’s a perfect mix, really, because none of the decor is too precious.”
A family affair
In Chicago, the clients lead busy lives, making the family-first nature of their Cabo abode all the more important. “We tend to spend a lot of time as a family in the kitchen area,” the husband and wife explain. “The doors are open nearly all the time, so we love sitting in there as a unit, enjoying the views of the water. It’s amazing because everyone, even our youngest, we all seem to mellow out when we’re here.”
The clients are generous with the space too, often inviting friends and family to spend time with them in Mexico. “I don’t think I’ve met people who are so giving as hosts,” notes Adler. “So I really leaned into the idea of not just designing the home for the immediate family, but for all the people who come visit them too.”
The clients certainly feel that extra touch of effort throughout the house. “You can enter a part of the home that you’ve been to before, sit down, absorb the surroundings, the details, and really feel like you’ve never been there before,” the homeowners admit. “It just goes to show the power of great design.”
What do we love most?
Does anything come close to those immaculate ocean views? This takes centre stage in this exquisite beach home. Furthermore, we love the combination of art and colour that merge together to create a beautifully serene home.
