Recycabilia: The art of Sustainable Home Decor
Sustainable design carefully considers the environment and how our actions will affect our future generations. Thanks to Recycabilia, we can now access environmentally-friendly products that are making a real impact on designer trends with a move towards green living in South Africa.
Recycabilia was started in October 2009 by collecting old wood lying at the dump and making up frames in a garage. They now run a successful factory making products from recycled wood. The end results have been gorgeous ranges of wooden decor suited to a modern style. Old wood is collected from various locations, but mainly at drop-off centres such as dumps.
Once separated and cleaned, the wood is taken to the Recycabilia workshop where it is reused to make a variety of wooden materials. More and more of today’s products are being manufactured with total or partial recycled content, from shelves and distressed frames to pinboards and chalkboards. Purchasing recycled products completes the recycling loop. By “buying recycled,” businesses and individual consumers, each play an important role in making the recycling process a success. Why choose recycled products for your home?
- You are helping to limit waste by reusing materials in innovative ways within the home.
- You are keeping items from filling our dumps.
- You are finding new and resourceful ways to use breathe life into old items that can be beautifully displayed in your home.
- You are helping to reduce pollution caused by waste.
- Reusing wood helps to preserve our trees and rainforests for future generations.
- You are ultimately assisting in the global fight to save the environment.
As you can see, there are so many benefits to purchasing recycled materials for your home. Now you can encounter these products firsthand from Recycabilia at the Homemaker’s Expo from 31 August to 3 September in Cape Town.
