Cortijo Genesis: A Joyful Mid-Century Escape in the Andalusian Hills
Tucked away in the rolling Andalusian hills just beyond the village of Gaucín—midway between Marbella and Gibraltar—Cortijo Genesis emerges as a radiant private escape, transformed by renowned interior architect Victoria-Maria Geyer.
What was once a forgotten ruin is now a breathtaking 600-square-metre boutique hotel. Designed to host up to 12 guests, the property includes five uniquely styled bedrooms, a shimmering swimming pool, and a lush hectare of land complete with landscaped gardens and a thriving permaculture vegetable plot.
In true Victoria-Maria style, the interiors are unapologetically bold and joyfully expressive. Drawing inspiration from Palm Springs’ mid-century modern aesthetic, she brings vibrant Californian cool to the rustic Andalusian countryside. From white wrought-iron loungers to pink parasols with red piping, the mood is relaxed, colourful, and unforgettable.
The central courtyard, with its tiled fountain and striped parasols, evokes the charm of a secret Mediterranean hacienda. Inside, each bedroom is inspired by a semi-precious stone—aventrine green, lapis lazuli blue, carnelian red, morganite pink, and citrine yellow—offering guests a unique and immersive visual experience. Neutral-toned walls serve as the perfect canvas for rich textures and eclectic details.
Design lovers will appreciate the curated art and décor, from woven raffia heads by Natalia Brilli to modernist tapestries by Marc Baumann. Sculptural lamps from Heaps & Woods and bold rugs by Elitis and Edelgrund add layers of warmth and personality throughout. Pierre Frey blinds frame the windows with elegance and structure.
One of the most striking spaces is the reading room, where a rainbow-painted ceiling of hand-finished wooden slats lifts the gaze. A Popus Edition sofa in Maison Thevenon textiles, paired with ethnic-style curtains, sets a vibrant, bohemian tone.
In the living room, Victoria-Maria’s own Wenceslas sofas complement striped fabrics by Manuel Canovas, making the space both energetic and inviting. The kitchen continues the story, with sunshine-hued saffron tiles and a vintage 1960s Roger Capron table infusing charm and nostalgia.
From corner to corner, Cortijo Genesis reflects a deep love of craft, storytelling, and design. Every detail is intentional. Every space invites wonder. It is more than just a place to stay—it’s an experience, a narrative woven through architecture, colour, and creativity.
For those seeking a boutique hotel in Andalusia that blends comfort, artistry, and authenticity, Cortijo Genesis is nothing short of unforgettable.
