For a young, entrepreneurial couple with four children, this contemporary beach home was envisioned as a sanctuary—a place where modern elegance meets family-friendly functionality. From reimagining the architectural flow to curating bespoke furnishings and artistic flourishes, the design team brought their signature style of refined whimsy, ensuring that every detail served both an aesthetic and a practical purpose.

At the heart of this design philosophy lies a commitment to crafting spaces that are not just beautiful but also deeply resonant with the people who live in them. The designers’ background in architecture played a crucial role in shaping the home’s intelligent layout. It therefore maximizes every inch for optimal functionality without compromising on style.

While the studio is often known for bold, maximalist statements, this project called for a more muted, serene approach—one that would evoke the calming essence of a contemporary beach home. This shift in aesthetic, however, did not mean a loss of character. Instead, it allowed for an exploration of subtle luxury, where materials, textures, and artistry became the focal points of this contemporary beach home.

“Our clients had a vision for something modern yet timeless,” says one of the designers. “They wanted a space that felt peaceful and natural, yet undeniably rich in detail and craftsmanship.”

The transformation of this 1980s neocolonial residence into a contemporary beach home required a complete reconfiguration of its layout. The team optimized the circulation of the home to seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, enhancing the feeling of openness and light. Every material was meticulously chosen to complement the home’s coastal surroundings while maintaining an air of sophistication.

The designers embraced a palette of organic, high-quality materials to infuse warmth and texture into the home’s modern framework. Rich oak, sleek marble, leather accents, and brass detailing feature prominently throughout the interiors. These elements bring an understated elegance that elevates the home beyond traditional beach house aesthetics.

The team’s signature touch can be found in their use of playful, unconventional furnishings that serve as both conversation starters and functional art pieces. The woven-rattan chair, with its sculptural form and playful presence, became a pivotal design element, inspiring the home’s broader artistic approach.

In the living room, a contemporary curved sofa and a sculptural lounge chair create a dynamic interplay of forms, adding softness to the space. A lacquer-topped coffee table adds a contemporary edge, complemented by a totemic tension-mounted floor lamp.
