It’s that time again – time to keep you design enthusiasts posted on this week’s hot events and trends in the décor and design scene. Here are not-to-be-missed events this week across the globe.

Cape Town 1703rd International Conference on Civil and Architectural Engineering (24th – 25th February, 2024)
The 1703rd International Conference on Civil and Architectural Engineering (ICCAE), to be held at the Fountain Hotel in Cape Town on February 24th and 25th, will bring together innovative academics and industrial specialists in the field of Civil and Architectural Engineering.
The purpose of this conference is to encourage research and development efforts in Civil and Architectural Engineering.
It also seeks to foster scientific information exchange among researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working in and around the world.
The conference will be conducted annually, making it an appropriate forum for participants to discuss perspectives and experiences in Civil and Architectural Engineering related topics.
Kuier @ the Castle (24 Feb)
An exciting new monthly market featuring a diverse array of Cape Town’s creative talent is set to be launched on 24 February at the Castle of Good Hope.
This is an initiative by the Craft + Design Institute (CDI), in partnership with the Castle of Good Hope.
Kuier@TheCastle promises to provide a holistic experience with a variety of local artisanal products, culinary delights, and entertainment aimed to satisfy all senses and create a wonderful day out for the entire family.
The two institutions want this to become the largest monthly creative event in the central business area.
Southern Guild opened in Los Angeles on Friday, 23 February.
Featuring two concurrent exhibitions: Indyebo yakwaNtu by Zizipho Poswa Mother Tongues, a group exhibition.
A year in the planning, Southern Guild opens the doors of its new gallery in Melrose Hill, Los Angeles, marking a watershed moment in the gallery’s history. The 5,000-square-foot room began with a private preview and is now open to the public.The gallery opens with two concurrent exhibitions: Indyebo yakwaNtu (Black Bounty) by Zizipho Poswa, a series of five monumental ceramic and bronze sculptures exploring African cultures of bodily adornment and ritual; and Mother Tongues, featuring work by 26 artists from across Africa and the diaspora including Manyaku Mashilo, Patrick Bongoy, Porky Hefer, Kamyar Bineshtarigh, Zanele Muholi, Andile Dyalvane and Rich Mnisi.

Dzuvula (Shedding Skin) by Rich MnisiRich Mnisi’s latest collection of unique design pieces includes sculptural bronze furniture and lighting, as well as a hand-woven limited-edition rug. Dzuvula (Shedding Skin) expands on the theology of duality introduced by the designer’s inaugural collection, Nyoka (2021). The snake reappears, embodying both dread and beauty, its undulating arcs twisting and destroying boundaries and limits.

Doha, Qatar
Design Doha 2024 (24 February – 5 August 2024)
Design Doha debuts its first biennial festival in 2024, showcasing design from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
In its first week, from February 24 to 28, the festival will include a range of events, including exhibitions on weaving, architecture, and Arabic posters, as well as a designer coaching programme. The exhibitions will continue until August 5.The events will take place in Doha Design District, which is located in the city’s Msheireb neighbourhood.
South Korea (22 Feb – 3 March)
Seoul Living Design Fair returns to South Korea’s capital in 2024, showcasing products that reflect prominent trends in the lifestyle design industry each year. The event takes place from 22 February to 3 March 2024 at COEX, 513 Yeongdong-daero, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
In collaboration with established designers, the event presents a variety of content and marketing strategies for interior designers, marketers and trend researchers.
The 11-day design fair features exhibitions as well as talks, seminars and an award ceremony.
