Plascon AFI Joburg Fashion Week Collaboration A Smashingly Luxurious Success
The catwalks of AFI Joburg Fashion Week recently came alive with a spectacular fusion of colour and Afro-Asian fashion influences.
The innovative collaboration between the prestigious fashion event and the coating brand saw inspired colour installations and offered a sneak peek into new and upcoming colour trends while keeping high African fashion firmly on the global map.
Said Plascon Digital and PR Manager, Zurita Moore, “This collaboration spoke to how considered colour as a backdrop, can transform a space, and what it is showcasing (in this case fashion), into something even more fabulous. We have been so excited to work with AFI. This collaboration has beautifully demonstrated how paint and fashion are inextricably linked and how, when combining these two powerful forces, something new and exciting steps out of the box.”
Now in its tenth year, the AFI was established to propel and maintain luxury African fashion brands on the global stage. This year’s show fused African and Asian influences as designers from across the continent, Rwanda, China, Japan, Cameroon, Cambodia and South Africa displayed their gorgeously colourful creations in a fully interactive fashion show.
Spanning four days, across multiple designers, each fashion show featured different Plascon colours in gorgeously luxurious Cashmere. Explains Moore, “The colours we chose for the different shows each spoke to future décor and design trends we have identified, and were also translated beautifully into a curated luxury fashion spaces throughout the event.”
Each day of the show the catwalk presented different hues, providing the perfect backdrop for the models and designers to display their medleys of avant-garde Afro Asian designs and fabrics.
The earthy Light Tan (94)) provided the perfect background for designers like Nao Serati, Mahone and Khosi Nkozi. Chopped Nuts (O1-C2-2) created a calming pink platform for the much anticipated MaXhosa by Laduma and Presidential. Soft grey-green Elfin Magic (G3-E2-1) hosted the Botswana Collection and designer Marianne Fassler showing her beautiful collection.
AFI has positioned itself at the cutting edge of future forward fashion shows through, among other things, reusing plastics for furniture and décor and placing the model makeup sessions on display. AFI Marketing and Communications Coordinator, Lindiwe Mlalazi said, “This is the first time we have had colourful catwalks and there was no doubt how the gorgeous colours amplified the power of colour fashion working together, bringing the shows to life.”
