If your patio is your game, Leroy Merlin is the name.

With a huge range of quality patio furniture on offer, Leroy Merlin is the go-to for homeowners and decorators looking for stylish yet affordable outdoor furniture this summer.

“We have all the furniture you need to transform your patio into a place made for relaxation and entertainment,” says the company. “Whatever the size of your patio, we have all you need. We have chairs, tables, deck chairs, loungers and other wooden furniture. We also have daybeds, lounge suites and other stylish wicker furniture. Our aluminium and steel ranges include weather-resistant furniture and dining sets. We have resin and multi-material furniture and covers to keep your furniture or braais protected.”

To help you whittle down the choices, the company shares some top tips for choosing outdoor furniture for your patio.

Start with a goal in mind

What you want to use your outside area for will dictate the final design and furniture needed. Do you mostly entertain outside? Then a dining-style table and chairs are needed. As well as a super braai, of course. If the space in question is around a pool, you might want to invest in daybeds or sun loungers and an umbrella.

Consider the weather

Outdoor furniture is exposed to the elements all year round, so be sure to choose materials that will last in your climate.

Aluminium, for instance, is rust and water-resistant and a good option for beach homes but it can get hot to the touch, so keep it out of direct sunlight.

If you live in a windy area, wrought iron or teak may be a good choice to prevent furniture from getting blown away.

Also be sure to choose durable, weatherproof fabrics for all upholstery.

Choose UV-stable materials

Harsh, direct sunlight can fade colour on fabrics and other materials, including wood, so be sure to choose items that have been treated or coated with UV stabilisers.

Choose easy-to-clean pieces

Opt for outdoor furniture that requires little maintenance and can be cleaned with a damp cloth. After all, you don’t want to spend your summer holiday cleaning.

A good idea is to invest in covers for pieces that are not often used or to store them indoors.

Choose a style

Your outdoor furniture should tie in with the overall style of your home. Luckily, there are loads of options to choose from, no matter your design preference, from classic wicker to contemporary designs in fun colours.
