As Autumn approaches, refreshing your interiors to embrace the new season can create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Here are some detailed tips and ideas to help you achieve this. Discover more with LIM.

Embrace Warmer Tones.

Choosing a colour palette that reflects autumns natural hues is a great idea to start with. Rusty oranges, rich browns, soft muted ochres or yellows and muted reds are some great options to keep in mind. This colour palette can be applied in the form of scatter cushions, throws, artwork and styling elements.

Layered textures and pattern.

Layering different textures adds depth and cosiness to your living space. Consider incorporating woollen knit, natural heavy linens, patinaed leathers, woven wicker or grass baskets and sisal or wool rugs. Adding pattern is also a great idea, tweed, tartan, houndstooth and stripe are some great striking options to add interest an element of surprise.

Lighting.

As the days shorten, focusing on creating a warm, relaxed and inviting ambiance with lighting is key. Choose multi-level light sources with soft warm white bulbs such as table lamps, floor lamps, sculptural lumineers, picture lights and candles. Harsh overhead lighting should be avoided.

Natural elements.

Bring the outdoors in by swapping spring and summer floral arrangements with interesting branches, gnarled and lichen covered are the best styled in heavy ceramic vessels on coffee tables, consoles and sideboards. Woven or wood bowls filled with pinecones or large river pebbles are also some good ideas for table scaping.

Furniture arrangement.

Reshuffling your floor plan using your existing furniture collection is always a great way to inject a fresh new look and feel into a space. Keep in mind the functionality of the space whether it be for social gatherings or relaxing with the family, creating conversational pockets or focusing your seating on a fireplace for optimal use and comfort. Introducing new vintage or antique finds, or heirloom pieces also adds warmth and patina to a living space, emphasising the laid-back and lived in lifestyle you are trying to achieve while being more indoors in the cooler months.
