The building got its nickname “bean” from the shape of the curvilinear facade. It is glazed with brise soleil for sun control. MultiChoice City was designed to be one of South Africa’s premier energy-efficient buildings. Its roof spans 23m across the multistory atrium and is 100 m long. It currently holds the record for the largest ETFE roof installed in Africa. Ethylene Tetra Fluoro Ethylene (ETFE) is a material that was originally invented by DuPont as an insulation material for the aeronautics and space industry.
