Head on Design Presents A Limited Range of Painted Animal Heads
Joanna Orr of Head On Design creates striking modern African animal sculptures from natural and recycled materials. Her love of the African Bush, and it’s conservation, is evident in her beautiful range of majestic kudu, elephant, lion and rhino heads. A graceful take on traditional hunting trophies, they serve to celebrate our wildlife, but without the bloodshed.
Each head is carefully crafted from natural bamboo, birch ply or recycled board, specifically designed with our fragile earth in mind. Each flat shape cleverly slots together at 90 degrees to form a 3 dimensional art piece, fit for the finest home, business or lodge.
An inspired collab
A recent stroke of genius resulted in a very special collaboration between Joanna and her creative partner, artist Sharon Boonzaier. Both share a studio space in Cape Town as well as a deep love of the natural world. Together Joanna and Sharon have launched a limited range of hand painted animal heads.
Each element of the kudu, lion or elephant head is delicately painted by Sharon in ink and gold leaf and finally varnished and finished by assistant, Sbu Ngozi. Sharon has made use of themes inspired by South Africa’s natural and historical heritage, such as ‘African Safari’, ‘Bee-eaters’ and ‘Cape Delft’. No one piece is the same and each unique animal head is an artwork to behold.

Liven up your home
For those not wanting to invest in an original art piece, Joanna also prints two of Sharon’s beautiful artworks on the kudu heads. With spring around the corner, you can liven up your wall with a colourful Fynbos print displaying proteas and birdlife found in abundance on the slopes of Table Mountain, or one that celebrates the rare Cape Leopard. This exciting collaboration has seen the sculptures shipped all around the world. Each head is signed by the artist.
These exceptionally-made decor items and gifts are conveniently sold flat packed with clear instructions on how to assemble.
Bespoke pieces and commissions are welcome, as well as branded corporate gifts. Head On Design also creates small to large scale installations for events and weddings.
All products are lovingly made in Cape Town, by Capetonians.
