Villa Augusta: A Boutique Hotel in France Where Timeless Design Meets the Beauty of Drôme Provençale

There are hotels that impress through grandeur, and there are those that leave a lasting impression through a profound sense of place. Villa Augusta, nestled just beyond the picturesque village of Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux in France’s Drôme Provençale, belongs firmly to the latter. Conceived by Oscar Lucien Ono, founder of Maison Numéro 20, the intimate retreat has been imagined not as a conventional hotel, but as a private home where guests are invited to slow down and truly settle in.

Set within a lush four-hectare woodland estate, the beautifully restored Tricastin manor house offers just 23 thoughtfully designed rooms. Every interior reflects Ono’s signature approach to hospitality design, where warmth, authenticity, and craftsmanship take precedence over excess. Rather than imposing itself, the architecture unfolds gently, allowing the history and character of the region to shape the guest experience.

Throughout the property, carefully curated details create a sense of effortless elegance. Hand-painted frescoes, bespoke sun-motif carpets, and interiors layered in earthy honey and linen tones establish a palette that feels both timeless and deeply connected to the surrounding landscape. A welcoming communal table greets guests on arrival, reinforcing the home’s residential atmosphere and encouraging moments of connection.

The influence of the Drôme Provençale extends beyond the interiors. Drawing inspiration from centuries-old traditions, gardens, and the region’s distinctive light, the design celebrates a quiet luxury rooted in place. Beyond the walls of Villa Augusta, guests can explore lavender fields, vineyards, and the surrounding countryside aboard a classic Méhari beach car or wander through the historic streets of Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux, where Romanesque architecture and traces of Gallo-Roman history await.

Beautifully considered and intimately scaled, Villa Augusta demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform hospitality into something that feels deeply personal – a place that is experienced not simply as a hotel, but as a home away from home.
