Cape Homemakers Expo Supports Local Designers & Less Fortunate Pets
Celebrating its 24th year, the Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo will take place from 29 August to 1 September at the CTICC. This year, visitors will be able to see, touch and feel the very latest in home, décor, design and lifestyle trends, as well as some new and exciting designs for our furry friends.
Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo, in association with Hill’s Pet Nutrition and Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG), have launched a Design, Art and Textile Design ComPETition, benefiting pets less fortunate than our own and rewarding local designers with over R50 000 in prize money.
The Design ComPETition is all about bespoke pet furniture such as designer beds, cat perches, multi-functional furniture and flat-packs for pet travel, to name a few. In the Art ComPETition, artists and designers will be given a basic wooden bed to create a one-of-a-kind design using paint, mosaic, collage, metal, pewter, or any other art medium. The Textile Design ComPETtition will have fabric designers create gorgeous pet themed prints. The top 15 finalists in each category will be on display for the duration of the Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo.
“We’re so excited to be adding another element to the Expo this year, that being our pet design category,” says Sandy Edwards, HOMEMAKERS Expo Organiser – Cape Town. “It’s only fitting that our furry companions should have their own category, as they’re such a part of our homes already. Why not let them do it in style? Being able to help those pets less fortunate than our own and give back to an organisation like DARG is just the cherry on top.”
Judged by an independent panel, the winners in each of the three categories will walk away with a cash prize of R10 000, with second place receiving R5 000 and third R3 000, totalling a whopping R54 000 in prize monies. Expo visitors will be invited to bid on their favourite design or artwork for their furry friend, with funds raised going to DARG.
Carla Bath, marketing manager at Hill’s Pet Nutrition adds: “We absolutely love the idea of supporting local designers and DARG, in search of finding chic designs that will help incorporate our fur-kids into our homes in style! Furthermore, a Hill’s team of experts will be on hand during the Expo to offer pet related advice, so come and have a chat to us.”
The closing date for competition entries is Friday, 14 June 2019 and successful entrants will be notified telephonically or in writing. Visit Homemakers for more details on how to enter.
