Meet the Team from Charmed Decor
In this exclusive interview, Melissa and Megan from Charmed Decor share the inspiration behind the brand. The dynamic duo discusses the latest tile trends shaping South African interiors and also explain how they help clients select surfaces that reflect both personal style and practical living.
- Charmed Decor has become known for its carefully curated collection of decorative tiles and mosaics. What inspired the vision behind the brand, and how do you ensure every collection offers something unique to homeowners and designers alike?
The inspiration behind the Charmed Décor brand is that we believe that tiles do more than just cover walls and floors, they shape how people experience a space. We try our best to ensure that each collection offers something unique to homeowners and designers through keeping up with the latest design and colour trends as well as listening to what our clients are looking for.
- Decorative tiles have evolved into statement design features. What tile trends are you seeing gaining momentum in South African homes, and which styles do you believe have true timeless appeal?
The trends we see that are gaining momentum in South Africa are definitely the Zellige style tiles, as their uneven finishes with natural variation provide an elegant appeal to any space. Another trend is the use of natural, stone and terracotta colours being used in homes which provide a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Styles that truly have a timeless appeal are subway tiles laid in simple stacked, herringbone or brick layouts.
- From Victorian mosaics and patterned tiles to handcrafted-look Zellige finishes, Charmed Decor offers an extensive variety of design styles. How do you help clients select tiles that not only suit their space but also reflect their personal style?
To help clients select tiles that suit their space and personal style, we ask them questions, such as what colours or finishes they lean towards, whether they want something bold or minimalist, and what feeling they want to create when entering the room. This helps us gain insight into the styles they are interested in, and our expert staff members provide clear advice and recommendations for our clients.
- Many homeowners are becoming more adventurous with colour, texture, and pattern. Which spaces in the home do you believe offer the greatest opportunity to make a design statement with decorative tiles, and why?
Spaces in the home that create an opportunity to make a design statement would be in the kitchen, such as on counter backsplash as well as the bathroom where you could use decorative tiles as a feature on the walls or even the floors.
- Looking ahead, how do you see decorative surfaces influencing the future of interior design in South Africa, and what can homeowners and design professionals expect next from Charmed Decor?
The biggest shifts we are seeing in the future of interior design are that homeowners and designers are using decorative tiles on kitchen backsplashes, bathrooms, and even outdoor patio areas. There is also a bolder use of colour and pattern to create features in spaces. Homeowners and design professionals can expect new collections which will be brought to South Africa to keep up with the new and latest trends in the coming year.
