GEOMETRIÆ by Moroso and Front at Milan Design Week: Geometry, Light, and Perception
At Galleria Antonio Colombo during Milan Design Week, GEOMETRIÆ unfolds as a precise yet exploratory study of form, perception, and light. Presented by Moroso in collaboration with Stockholm-based studio Front, founded by Anna Lindgren and Sofia Lagerkvist, the exhibition positions geometry not as a fixed system, but as a space for inquiry and reinterpretation.
Front by Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren
At its core are primary geometric solids – spheres, cylinders, and parallelepipeds – arranged into compositions that feel both immediate and slightly disorienting. While their forms are universally recognisable, their presence resists conventional spatial logic. Much like the atmospheres found in metaphysical painting, these objects occupy a space that is both real and imagined, where clarity gives way to a more nuanced, perceptual ambiguity.
This tension is embedded in the process itself. Each object begins as a drawing, carefully rendered in pencil or watercolour, where light, shadow, and surface are explored through a painterly lens. These studies are then translated into two-dimensional projections and woven into jacquard textiles, which are subsequently applied to the final upholstered forms. In doing so, the logic of light is inverted – shadows are no longer cast, but inscribed, becoming part of the object’s surface rather than a response to its environment.
The result is a collection that operates between disciplines. Each piece reads simultaneously as object and image, where the “constructed” volume and the “painted” volume never fully coincide. Seating becomes sculptural, and sculpture becomes a vehicle for questioning how we interpret space.
