Muuto’s “Art of Belonging” Milan Apartment Redefines Modern Living at Milan Design Week
At Milan Design Week, Muuto presented the Milan Apartment – The Art of Belonging, a spatial concept shaped by the idea that the home quietly influences how we feel, connect, and live. Through a considered interplay of material, colour, light, and form, the apartment was conceived as a lived-in space: warm, unpolished, and intuitive, where design supports daily life while nurturing comfort and connection.
The interior unfolds through a series of functional rooms, each framed as The Art of…, and grounded in familiar domestic rituals. Arriving, gathering, hosting, preparing, listening, and unwinding are treated as essential rhythms of the home, with spaces shaped not just by function, but by atmosphere over time. Personal objects, cultural references, and everyday moments remain visible, allowing the apartment to feel layered, human, and quietly expressive.
Within this setting, Muuto introduced the Coltre Modular Sofa by Milan-based design duo Studiopepe, a piece that reflects an evolving language of comfort in contemporary living. Meaning “blanket” in Italian, Coltre is conceived as a sculptural sofa system designed for flexibility. A quilted textile layer drapes over a structured frame, with parallel stitched lines introducing rhythm and softness across both expansive configurations and standalone modules, including a lounge chair. The Coltre Modular Sofa is set to launch in September 2026.
Together, the apartment and its furnishings form a cohesive narrative, one that moves beyond aesthetics to consider how spaces are inhabited. The Milan Apartment stands as an exploration of a more human approach to design, where function and feeling coexist, and where the idea of belonging is quietly built into every detail.
Muuto is locally available at Barker Street, a supplier of high-quality furniture for the home and office in South Africa.
