Finding solutions through renovation

The project began with a practical challenge. The existing doors had started swelling and becoming difficult to open, particularly on the side most exposed to the elements. This issue became the catalyst for a complete redesign, with the focus firmly placed on creating a solution that would complement the aesthetic of the space while performing effectively in an outdoor environment.

To achieve this, moisture-resistant C88 board was selected for the carcasses, while 12mm porcelain was used for the countertops and clad door and drawer fronts. These carefully considered material choices provide a durable and refined finish capable of enduring outdoor conditions. The countertop was built up to create a stronger architectural profile, lending the braai area a bold, high-end presence while maintaining practicality.

Attention to detail

The seamless appearance of the cabinetry was enhanced through the use of Blum Tip-On hardware, allowing doors and drawers to remain clean, handleless and easy to operate. This attention to detail contributes to the sophisticated yet understated aesthetic that defines the entire entertainment area.

Adding warmth and character to the design are the solid Iroko feature elements. Circular display units, Iroko slatted detailing and integrated water-resistant LED lighting soften the more structured finishes, transforming the space into a true entertainment destination rather than simply a functional braai zone. These elements create visual interest while reinforcing the welcoming atmosphere of the outdoor setting.

From the earliest design development stages through to manufacturing and installation, the emphasis remained on creating joinery that was both considered and practical. Every aspect, from proportions and finishes to storage solutions and functional details, was carefully refined to ensure the braai, fireplace and bar elements worked together as one cohesive bespoke outdoor entertainment space.

Bespoke additions

The project was also tailored to the family who would enjoy it. Thoughtful personalised details, including a customised scoreboard designed specifically for them, introduce a playful and unique element without compromising the overall design language. These bespoke additions ensure the space feels distinctly personal while maintaining its refined character.

A matching bar unit, positioned within the covered outdoor area, was completed using the same finishes to unify the entertainment zone. In addition to providing practical storage for serving and entertaining, the bar contributes to the seamless flow and visual continuity of the overall design.

The result is a weather-conscious outdoor braai and bar area. The space successfully combines strong creative direction, premium materials and skilled custom joinery.
